Bought May 2015 after riding friends Merida Cx 500. First drop bar bike I've owned and wasn't sure about it at first. Shouldn't of worried as found riding position to be very comfortable. Had 50t chainring and 11-32 cassette fitted on purchase. That combo gave me plenty of scope as the bike is used mainly for road and track. Have ridden 2k miles in all conditions since then and have replaced two chains(original only lasted 50 miles before snapping). I have had two rear mechs disappear into the rear wheel( bike shop should have recommended changing rear deraileur when using the 50t 32t they fitted). Full cable replacement. The original seat went in favour of a cut out Specialised one.Fitted Schwalbe marathon plus(heavy but really hard wearing with great puncture resistance) tyres. Got the kiddie brakes taken off and the modulation is much better. Just about to fit new headset bearings as I type. These dont seem to have a lot of weatherproofing as I see it. Bike is never jet washed. Only washed by hand. Bearing quality is poor so fitting stainless steel bearings instead. Wheels have been very good. Cranks are good. Brakes are ok and like to eat pads. I am really happy with my Merida cyclocross 500. So much so my Zaskar race mtb has been retired. Dont think I will be going back to it. Future mods will include a road wheelset for this spring/summer. I reckon once i have them then I have got a do it all road/cx/trail bike at my disposal.
