incredible value, even by today's standards. Gravel and XC bike are fashionable nowadays, but don't see why these hybrids are being overlooked. They offer the same versatility. This is a real Swiss army knife of a bike. Here's my 2 cents.

Frame, especially in liquid platinum is gorgeous. Lots of room for wider tyres. Lots of mounting points for mudguards and rear racks. very versatile.

Forks, on the comp they fix the intended purpose perfectly and have a lockout.

Wheels, light enough with a good spoke count

Tyres, again, lots of room around the fork and stays for chunky rubber if needed

Gearing, perfect for intended purpose

Pedals, wellgo are cheap, but easily replaced

Bottom bracket, sealed bearing, rather than the creaking press fit ones

Cockpit- handlebars and stem standard sizes, so easily swapped, also has screw on grips. Shifters always smooth. Although not much space to mount accessories because the width changes at stem mount

Overall, for a hybrid bike, this is really well thought out all-rounder for someone who doesn't reach for lycra or full face helmet when going for a ride.

- review update -

Bordman's saddles are great - light, nice looking and most of all, comfortable.

In 2013, I and my wife, decide to hire 2 bicycles (Giant) to enjoy views in a National Park. After 2 hours it's become clear that saddles are awful and we have to quickly come back. For the next 2 days, we had to forget about cycling.

According to this experience, the saddle is very important part of any bicycle, and Bordman did a very good job.

With full respect to leading brand Giant, I prefer Bordman - I have all I need in one purchase.

I am cycling to work (summer and winter) by the mx comp 2014.

I made over 1300 miles and it is still in very good condition.
Brilliant bicycle, no problems apart from one thing. The freehub SRAM 406 is not very waterproof. It needs periodic disassembly or replacement.
The good thing about this hub is that the cones are situated at the very ends, so after time, the axle is as straight as new.

Changing back wheel would make it a robust machine. To be honest with you for a good rear wheel you can spend as much as on this Boardman.

Overall a very well build bicycle, very happy with the purchase.

Got this bike from Halfords Perth . Bike was taken back less than 24 hours later , gearing set up all wrong . In the top 2 gears the chain was hitting and the noise was doing my head in . On taking it back to Halfords they tried to adjust the gears (2 of them I may add) for over an hour to no avail , so I had to walk home .
Picked the bike up 2 days later and got 100m and the chain came off twice. Now I'm no expert but I know how to adjust gears , so played about for 15 mins and now works fine . Halfords really do employ morons . The McDonald's of bike shops !

The actual MX Comp is a decent bike , does exactly what has been said in the Boardman reviews . Fairly light , fast on the road compared to normal MTBs , bit bumpier off road but that's to be expected with the thinner wheels . Has coped with everything I have thrown at it . Impressed with my first Hybrid , impressed with my first Boardman , time will tell if it stays that way but first thoughts are good ones . Shame about the shop they sell them in but after the first service you don't need to go back , take it to a proper bike shop with proper bike people .

Review update.
I took the bike back as the crank started to make a creaking sound and got a refund.
Just bought a giant roam 1 2014 instead from a proper knowledgeable bike shop.
2 week wait for my size.

I bought the mx comp 2014 after taking back the boardman hybrid comp 2014 after endless problems with the gears and chain coming off.
I had that bike for 4 weeks and it was cursed.
When it worked it was great but thats when it worked.
Anyway. I now have had the mx comp 2014 for a week and its a brilliant bike and im breaking strava records i made on the hybrid which has surprised me as its heavier, has front suspension and 37mm tyres instead of the hybrids. 28
This week ive rid 136 miles on the mx comp and rid off road around alton water aswell as the usual commuting through town.
The gear mech has been spot on and i noticed when i upgraded to the mx all the cheaper £429-£500 boardman bikes had the micro mech that caused me so many problems.
Getting up hills is also easier on this bike.
I thought i would loose speed going for this bike but ive actually gained some plus i now plan on riding off road at alton water whenever possible.
The bike also just wants to roll on its on and makes a great sound.
Good gear shifting and excellent brakes.
Lock out forks for commuting and the option to use them switched off off road makes this a jack of all trades bike.
Downhill ive reached a max 36.7 mph so far while getting a 15-17mph average speed on rides varying from 8-23 miles.
Also the colour really makes this bike stand out.
I give this bike 5 stars, absolutely love it.
