About Specialized Tricross bikes
Although the name Tricross suggests that this range of bikes is suitable for Cyclo-cross they are in fact designed to be commuter bikes that will also happily tackle light trails and towpaths and are ideal for beginners and enthusiast alike. All Tricross models come with aluminium frames which feature rack and mudguard mounts which adds another level of versatility and also makes these bikes ideal for touring use. Specialized Tricross bikes offer a relaxed riding position and wider tyres help smooth out the ride over asphalt and trails. The frame also features internal cable routing which helps keep the cables free from grime, helping them last longer and aesthetically the clean lines look good too. Tricross frames also feature a 'shoulder friendly' top tube for carrying your bike up a flight of stairs or steep hill. The two cheaper models (Tricross & Tricross Sport) are equipped with cantilever brakes and the two higher models in the range (Tricross Sport Disc & Tricross Elite Disc) come equipped with more powerful mechanical disc brakes for improved braking performance. For a slightly faster range of road bikes offering similar levels of comfort at around the same price consider the Secteur range. The calliper brakes on Secteur bikes aren't as powerful as either the cantilever or mechanical disc brakes that the Tricross bikes are equipped with but the narrower tyres make them a bit quicker.

Specialized says
Tricross Sport Disc is the perfect do-it-all bike for anything from trails to commuting to touring, with rack/mudguard mounts and secondary brake levers. 9-speed Shimano components, disc brakes, and a carbon fork give a wider range of gears, better all-condition braking, smoother ride, and quicker handling.
