A bottle's a bottle, isn't it? Nope, not anymore. Camelbak have created a hybrid flask-water bottle combo. The 620ml ChilliJacket is a two-layer version of Camelbak's popular BPA-free Podium bottle, with a permanent silver-ion anti-bacterial treatment inside. The idea is that this double layer, filled with foam and air, insulates whatever's splashing around in your bottle as you ride. For winter cycling, I fill this bottle with hot squash to avoid that ice-cream-headache and core cooling that you get from thirstily glugging freezing water from a regular water bottle. It means you are more likely to drink, keep hydrated and perform better. Vice versa for hot days. I chuck in some ice cubes and enjoy being super cooled from the inside out.
Unlike a flask, this bottle is light and the contents are easily and plentifully squirted into your mouth through the self sealing JetValve, even while pedalling like a beast. You can also lock the valve completely for extra security when you're driving or shaking up powdered energy or repair supplements and wash it in the top rack of your dishwasher. It won't hold the liquid's temperature as long as a flask and it's unrealistic to expect it to keep warm or cool over more than a couple of hours, plus the bottle holds almost 100ml less than a regular £9 Podium bottle, so if you're not fussy about the temperature of your drink, there are other lighter, larger, cheaper bottles around.
