Fancy paying only a penny for a cycle race, or getting the ferry to the Isle of Wight as part of a fun-packed biking event? It’s all possible with the new Wiggle Super Series, which kicks off this coming March. In total, 22 cycle events, both road sportives and mountain bike rides, will be organised by UK Cycling Events, designed to appeal to riders of all ages and abilities.
The ‘Wight Ferry Sportive’ has expanded to cope with last year’s huge demand. Competitors loved the novel idea of cycling through the New Forest National Park, getting the boat en mass to the Isle of Wight, cycling round it, then jumping back aboard to complete the ride back in the New Forest. If you want to take part this year, be sure to snap up your ticket fast because it sold out in four months in 2011.
To guarantee a place you can book Early Bird tickets more than eight weeks in advance and you’ll get a free High5 Race Faster pack full of energy goodies worth £12. Or, you can go for a series entry – a Sportive Pass or a Mountain Bike Pass for roadies and off-roadies respectively, There are only 100 of these, so get in quick if you want to ride every race at a massively reduced cost.
All the events in the series include well stocked feed stations, mechanical support, chip timing, well marked courses, massages, bike wash facilities, finishers’ medals and much more.
Plus, just before Christmas UK Cycling Events will also be launching it’s very own Christmas present for cyclists. The famous ‘No Excuses’ Sportive (which The Bike List took part in last year) is making a return in 2012 and it only costs a penny to enter! The catch is that if you don’t turn up, you’ll be charged £25 with all profits going to charity – so you really have got no excuse not to turn up and work off that turkey.
