Genesis says

A subtly-sprung Reynolds 725 heat-treated Cr-Mo frame and Cr-Mo forks with disc brakes make this less cross racer, more of the crossing-boundaries type. A bike that could be found taking on all kinds of terrain, the Croix de Fer suits 28c road slicks and guards or the fitted 35c cross tyres for country lanes, tracks and byways. Reliable braking and a tendency toward rear wheel drifts in the wet means there s no such thing as miserable conditions and it s perfectly capable of being one of the fastest bikes along hard-pack trails. A drop-bar bike with fewer limits there s never a bad time to be riding a Croix de Fer.

About Genesis

We expect a lot from our bikes in the UK. We make unusual choices in terms of what to ride, why, and when to ride it. We have creative ideas of what a proper ride should consist of. This approach to riding and our often-wet trails and unforgiving road surfaces create the need for bikes to adapt independently. Go outside the UK and riders might not appreciate our reasons for wanting a long-fork hardtail or single-speed bike. Few others would choose rugged capability over race-replica weight. A bi

Genesis Croix de fer 2011 - 1st Class Bike
These are great looking, solid bikes. I was originally unsure about the plain white frame and forks, but after I had it delivered I knew I had made the right choice. It has a classic look and is understated, no-nonsense quality without the need of go-faster stripes.
I think the shallow drop bars are great, and find the ride comfortable. The tiagra levers and tiagra/105 setup do the job well. The wheels are good, although I have changed the tyres to 28mm Continentals, more road friendly.
The disc brakes work well and add to the reassuring feel to the bike.
I have seen on some reviews the weight is always mentioned, but I dont think its a problem. It rolls along well does whatever you want. Plenty of space for guards and eyelets for a rack too. I have a S/Roubaix too, but think the Carbon bike has made me appreciate the Steel framed (Reynolds 725) bike.
Its a Great Allrounder. If you're not racing, Bmx'ing, or riding extreme mountain routes, This Is The Bike.
