You can dirt jump with almost any type of bike, the aim being to take a run up at a mound of dirt or soil, nail a trick in the air, then land without eating dirt. The mounds are usually engineered to give more lift than standard BMX or mountain bike racing as dirt jumping is all about mid-air trick complexity, rather than blasting out the quickest course time.
Cruisers, mountain bikes and BMX bikes make great dirt jumpers. BMX tend to be peg-less, with semi-slick tyres and possibly a seat with more padding. Mountain bikes often have a single gear, no front brake and a smaller frame.
